Welcome to Thoroughly Nourished Life!
Hi I’m Amy, and I’m always hungry. Whether I’m hungry for food, exercise, books, or adventure I am always searching for a way to nourish myself.
I started Thoroughly Nourished Life as a way to celebrate and share the ways that I try to nourish myself every day. I cook gluten free, vegetarian fare and I strive to share a balance of healthy and decadent food on Thoroughly Nourished Life – because life should be about salad and cookies. Or doughnuts and green smoothies.
Most of the recipes published are my own creations, and nearly all recipes are gluten free and vegetarian. I am vegetarian and gluten free for health reasons, but I live with an omnivore so recipes often feature meat accompaniment suggestions from my omnivorous boyfriend, Chris. I draw inspiration for my recipes from many different places: the farmers market, my blog friends, my friend’s and family’s creations and my own cravings!
I want people to know that gluten free, vegetarian life isn’t about giving up foods, but about encompassing different foods for a more Thoroughly Nourished diet. I love spending time in my kitchen experimenting and creating wholefood recipes to share with my wonderful readers, family, friends, and co-workers.
I also focus on the practice of gratitude and share my weekly Gratitude Lists in the hope of inspiring others to find gratitude in their everyday lives. Being active about our gratitude has been linked to increased happiness levels – and I think everyone could do with more happiness in their life!
A little more about me….
I live in Brisbane, Australia with my poker-playing, IT genius boyfriend Chris (he has the best laugh and the most beautiful green eyes). My parents (Mama Chickpea and Dada), our evil/sweet cat (Toby) and my tri-pawed fur-sister (Molly) live close by as do my sister (Jess), her husband (Trent), and my fur-niece (Storm). We are a close family and they make frequent appearances in my stories and are a big part of my Thoroughly Nourished Life.
After studying and working as a dietitian and exercise physiologist for seven years I went back to university to study writing, editing and publishing. I now work with data and administration-stuff during the day and at night I have dreams of writing books and making food that nourishes mind, body and soul. Books, reading, and studying for my own pleasure make up a big part of my thoroughly nourished life.
I love to travel and Chris and I are currently planning some grand adventures out in the world together. First up: more travels in the USA – and then? Wherever the fair winds blow!
I also love to run, nearly every day. It is probably the most nourishing thing for my mind, body, and soul. I see interstate races as an excuse to spend time in some of my favourite places (such as Tasmania). I have completed four half marathons, several 10ks and some 5ks so far and I am always looking for a new favourite race. And yes, I always run with a handkerchief in my sports bra. There is nothing fun about sniffling for 22km!
In the nature of full disclosure I must also state that I love: cappuccinos and iced Americanos, Halloween and Christmas, listening to podcasts, shiny new notebooks, vegetarian sushi, trying new fitness classes with my sister, opera and country music, singing whenever I can, going to the ballet and theatre, dancing in the rain, 1000 thread –count cotton sheets, full sentences and proper grammar in text messages, fresh flowers, salted peanuts, watching the sunrise, walking on the beach, and pistachio gelato.

I love your updates! Have I told you before I also am a grammar nazi not only in real life, but in text messages as well? We really were meant to be, my friend. Hahaha!
We certainly were meant to be friends! To the power of the properly placed comma!
Hi Amy. Good to meet you! I am also a fellow Brissie blogger (and a Public Health Nutritionist). I completely agree with your philosophy. PS: Tassie is one of my favourite places in the world as well. Look forward to following 🙂
Nice to meet you too Jem! So wonderful to connect with another Brissie blogger and another healthy professional (even though I’m working in a field far removed from that world now)! Thanks for visiting, and I look forward to getting to know you more 🙂
